Why Joshua Silveira Signed with the PFL: ‘I Want to Join the $1 Million Club’

On Feb. 18, Joshua Silveira will make history by competing on the first card of the Professional Fighters League’s debuting format, the Challenger Series. Silveira (7-0) is coming off a dominant performance in his latest fight, where he upended Jared Revel in a middleweight affair and captured his second belt under the Legacy Fighting Alliance banner. For his Challenger Series debut, the son of American Top Team co-founder “Conan” Marcus Silveira will move up again to light heavyweight. While talking with Sherdog, the 29-year old said that he is taking it step by step, but he confessed that he is eying the $1 million prize at the end of the PFL tournament. First, he will have to earn a PFL contract for the Regular Season by overcoming his upcoming opponent on the Challenger Series.

“What makes PFL exciting for me is No. 1, my team,” he said. “I wanted to have a good decision with them so we decided together. That makes me very comfortable. My dad, Dan Lambert, the American Top Team, everybody supports me. That’s the first step. I don’t want to make a decision where maybe my father and my team doesn’t think it’s the right decision, or [that] maybe I’m moving too fast. One, PFL is good to develop. I’ve been doing this for a long time, but for the first time in my MMA career I could actually make a little money for myself and start up to grow not just in MMA but in life. I think it’s exciting; it’s a good first step. I just like the show, I love how everything goes down. I don’t know if it’s going to be in Florida, but if it’s in Florida, even better so I don’t have to travel as much. I think it’s a great first step, I think it’s a good decision. All we got to do is put the work in and win down, let’s go win some money.”

Many of his ATT teammates have already won PFL championships and pocketed the much-coveted final prize, and this motivates Silveira to give his best.

“I want to join the $1 million club too,” he concluded.

In addition to commenting on his latest performance, Silveira also shared some of his good memories with some of the MMA greatest fighters of all time, including former UFC titleholders Vitor Belfort and Tyron Woodley.
