Hendricks: Wrestlers Have Mental Edge
Two-time NCAA champion Johny
Hendricks, on “The
Savage Dog Show,” discussing why wrestlers are so successful in
MMA:
“The reason why is because every day [as a college wrestler] you go in there and train your butt off and you get hurt, you get injured and you learn mentally and physically what your body can go through. I think a lot of people don’t know that I tore a hamstring my sophomore year. I still had to wrestle the next day on a torn hamstring. If I had never wrestled and I pulled my hamstring, would I have known that I could push through that? It’s that kind of willpower and that kind of grind and that kind of maturity and mental strength that I think helps the wrestlers in MMA.”
